Understanding the UPSC Mains Examination

The UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination consists of nine papers in total. Two papers are qualifying in nature — one general English paper and one Indian language paper. The remaining seven papers carry marks that count towards the final merit list: Essay (250 marks), General Studies Papers I through IV (250 marks each), and two Optional Subject papers (250 marks each).

Duration and Schedule

The Mains Test Series programme runs for a minimum of 5 months, with tests scheduled fortnightly per paper in the initial phase and weekly in the final phase prior to the actual Mains examination. All tests are available in both online and classroom formats for UAE-based aspirants.
